Project Butterfly From Autodesk Labs Gets a Geospatial Twist
Shortly after its debut from Autodesk Labs, the project known as Butterfly that allows users to share their Design information over the web and even edit this information has evolved. For the architect, the land planner, the utility designer and others that seek to put their engineering projects into real world context; project Butterfly allows you to integrate imagery from files and Google Earth. This is another great example of how Autodesk technology overcomes the CAD and GIS hurdle allowing you to integrate engineering designs with mapping information. Check out the video and be sure to visit Autodesk Labs for more http://labs.autodesk.com/
Really interesting, I do feel this type of technology is the way forward. We have coined the phrase Team GIS, to use to describe sharing data geospatial data to clients and collegues. We have been developing KeySpatial a Team GIS based on MapGuide, we have built into a project locator so you can see where all your jobs are and how they relate, as well as project security.

Agreed, breaking down silos and integration are the paths forward. Just like we learned in grade school, everyone is happier when we share!
